My RPi4B (4GB) is above me, on a shelf, fixed to a DIN rail. It has the Pimoroni fan shim fitted to it. I just ran a benchmark on it with sysbench and watched the temperature. Started at 37°C, and after 7 iterations reached 52°C max. Ambient temp is around 21°C here today (Edinburgh, Scotland).
Slightly cooler results than the same tests on this YT video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVfvhEJ9XD0

@perloid I have one on order. Due to ship next week. I didn't buy a fan. Just heatsinks. Think I'll need a fan?

@Jason_Dodd It gets very hot without something to cool it. The YT video I referenced showed that heatsinks alone aren't enough, so I'd recommend a fan.

@perloid I see. I'm cheap and don't want to hear a fan. So, first, I'll risk killing it. But I suppose it will just shut down if overheats.

To date I haven't even used a heat sink on any of the SBCs I've owned.

@Jason_Dodd It throttles and slows down considerably as it heats up. There's a firmware update coming (or even available, not sure) that helps it keep cooler. The fan I have is silent - or at least I can't hear it.
