      I think I was close! But it should be bhí sé go maith, not tá é go maith.

      tá = "is" in present tense
      bhí = "was"
      é = he / it as the object of the sentence
      sé = he / it as the subject

      Théigh mé go dtí an trá inniu, agus bhí sé go maith!
