    Microsoft is publishing the exFAT specification and will be supporting its inclusion in the Linux kernel and OIN. https://cloudblogs.microsoft.com/opensource/2019/08/28/exfat-linux-kernel/

    exFAT being patent-encumbered always struck me as ridiculous, considering it's essentially an extension of FAT32 and would otherwise be a perfectly valid filesystem for basic, portable mass storage. (Sorry, UDF.) This technically doesn't change that, but it's still a marked improvement that I'm surprised by.
