People only think Windows "just works" because they get it preinstalled and already configured by the PC/laptop manufacturer.

On my Dell laptop, whenever I wanted to install Windows I needed to go on another machine, download 20 .exes and put them on a USB drive, because there were no drivers on a clean Windows install and I couldn't even access the internet.

The first time I installed GNU/Linux on that laptop I almost screamed "ARE YOU F-ING KIDDING ME? HOW IS THIS *ALREADY* WORKING?"

tbh it's a very bad configuration.

I haven't got that often but I know the reason of it. It's because they use an image disk of an incorrect OS/with incorrect hardware. It happens but it's not common.
