You know, I kinda get so fed up every day to see commercial tech still being so big, sucking up everyone's data, selling it, being insecure and no-one seeming to care nor realise.
Google, Apple, Microsoft, Discord, Slack
There are better, more private, more secure options out there yet people consistantly choose those ones not realising or not caring how much data they're giving up.
I realise that it's not the people's fault at least not fully, but honestly, I want these pieces of tech to burn to the ground, to die and be replaced with better things, to empower people, not just make money off of them.
It's why I never got on with mainstream social media, because that wasn't about people either.
I like it here, I want people to connect with people, I just don't like it when third parties are making money off of my connection to others by sucking up and selling off or the data, not providing encryption so third parties can stalk and see everything I say.
It's creepy as hell and I can't understand still why people don't see that.
Are there problems with FOSS? Yes, there are absolutely are, the whole culture is toxic especially so many men berating women in the space and using awful language and not generally being good at communicating in a friendly way, I've experienced and seen it before and I totally agree more needs to be done.
However, I still don't think that going to commercial software all the time that places so many restrictions and uses all your data to make its money without your consent is necessarily a better idea.
