Sometimes i feel like you. 😕
Not sure if it's your aim, but i'm additionally using lists to do this task: i selected a small number of mates and put them in a list, so when i click it i see a timeline of just their posts.
I find it useful when i'm away from the fedi for some time, so i only catch up the news only of this group of "interesting" people.
