    I found a textbook from 2003 where they are storing passwords * in plain text. I know a friend was hashing (with MD-5) his site’s passwords in 2004.

    * An introductory example, teaching string manipulation. They could say “that’s not how we really do this” later on. I just thought it was a little odd to find that in a book published in 2003.
