oh, that's not my position at all, but i think it's important to look at the whole person. the people who are going for his juggular are frustrated, but the lack of respect for his legacy is disappointing. on the other hand though, you have to also be able to say "wow, he's done a lot of fucked up things." anything else is just a sentimental view.
and, bluntly, *my* reasoning for why RMS should retire (which i have hed this position for many years now) mostly has to do with reinvigorating the movement with new blood.
someone who really gets things like discord and SaaS and can speak the language of our youth.
in short, i want RMS to retire, and i want the FSF to install a board of zoomers. but i don't want RMS to be written off, either.
