My fantasy research of Geneva has lead me to a point where I can't tell if Switzerland is a neoliberal hellscape where only the rich live comfortably, or a great example of direct democracy in action (but a democracy that is sometimes abused, like when they used to have local citizens vote on people's citizenship applications and tended to deny people whose name or country of origin didn't sound 'white' enough). Maybe it's both, but neolib capitalism mutates direct democracy into a bad thing?

Also, I don't speak French so that's a problem (even though the company I'd work for in this fantastic hypothetical works in English and the job doesn't require French or German).

@ink_slinger Actually, Aristotle talked about this kind of thing..."democracy" was the corrupt and fallen version of "polity."
