"Never sleep if you want to win" bros are to me like incels --- particularly disturbing, because I find them reflections of myself in a particularly toxic mirror.
I, personally, work a little most every day, because that happens to fit my style. My job is astoundingly flexible (research position, so no teaching; theory, so not tied to a lab spatially or temporally). And there's basically a continuum of activity between "serious work" and faffing off. I can read old physics papers or brush up on math that's tangential to my research project, and it's pretty much like a paid hobby. I can get totally high on that legal Massachusetts weed and scribble down ideas for new things to investigate, and sometimes in the morning they still make sense. Watching a math video to see if I can recommend it to a prof colleague as a teaching aid is only slightly more demanding than kicking back with the BA test kitchen.
Lucky in physics, unlucky in love.
