@1iceloops123 Audiocast ads where the host says "I use Johnboy's Discount Backup Service and you should too!" are more of a problem than just reading off the advertiser's copy.
-
Are they? I mean, the Juniper ads are looooooooooooonnnnnnnng, but aside from that I'd prefer that endorses actually use the product
-
@musicman I don’t really believe that the show’s host always “just happens” to use an advertiser’s product. I mean, there are plenty of great data recovery solutions, plenty of cloud storage systems, plenty of backup systems. The advertiser’s product or service can be acceptable or even great without being the one that the host had chosen pre-sponsorship.
That’s why I’d rather they just read the ad copy and not lie to me about their personal experience with Johnboy’s Discount Backup Service is when they probably don’t use it (or they just started using it because they are getting it for free when the company started sponsoring the show).

@lnxw48a1 do you have an example in mind. I've listened to enough Juniper shows that I think they were legit, though I guess some of the shows are part of Linux Academy now so no ads. I'm not sure if BSD Now is LA, but I don't recall any ads recently
-
@musicman No specific examples. I haven’t been listening to podcasts at all recently. But over the years, there were shows on TwiT (and, yes, BSD Now) where I really wondered how every host all happened to choose $SPONSORING_VENDOR and gush lovingly about its products’ virtues.

@lnxw48a1 with Juniper, I got the impression that they legit ran the business on those. I mean, if not, they kept that shtick up for YEARS

@lnxw48a1 I have noticed since you brought it up that sometimes Python Bytes says they use the sponsor and sometimes they don't, so I think that one is legit.
