@puzzled on more than one occasion I've had people suggest to me "why don't you just use 'x' from Google instead of going through the bother of hosting it yourself?", and on about as many occasions someone complains "dammit Google just shut down/changed/broke 'x'!"

Google's track record demonstrates they cannot be depended upon to provide essential services to anyone but themselves.
