The brother advocating that we use #Zoom for family #videochats has enlisted another brother to try and persuade family members.
Had to send him a summary of my objections ... I considered linking sources, but I figured that would make it too long and too ranty.

Make it sort clear and concise. Does your brother work in IT ? no ? So why would his word have more technical value than your own ?
-
@mangeurdenuage None of my brothers specifically work in IT, but both of those brothers were 'acting IT' when their respective employers cut IT staff in field locations.

:/
>Today's response seems to have worked.
Nice.
>an aunt is expected to pass soon
oh I'm sorry to hear that :(
>an aunt is expected to pass soon
I hope things will go well.
@geniusmusing
>Time to teach them?
Better late than never. But it's gonna be hard, especially if the people in question already have bad digital hygiene.
-
@lnxw48a1 Have you tried giving them a Jitsi Meet link with you on the other side and seeing where that leads?
-
@xrevan86 Yes, when I tried that, it resulted in me sitting there all alone.
Today's response seems to have worked. I finally got them to try it. We just had a 3-way conference that seemed to work. Now we're going to try to roll it out to other siblings tomorrow evening. (All it took to break the logjam is two relatives to be hospitalized with presumed COVID-19 ... an aunt is expected to pass soon, they haven't made any statement about the cousin.)
