@lnxw48a1 I think one factor that has helped the US immensely, irrelevant of whether the actions taken by the government at any level has taken, is a) the number of ICU beds per capita was already higher than any other country to begin with (long term care beds are apparently rarer, but ICU beds are the opposite), and b) gigantic industrial and logistical (thanks to the military) capacity.
a) bought you a lot of time, and once b) kicked in and you started producing and distributing ventilators, PPE, tests, etc... you could easily make more than you would ever need.

as with pretty much everything saying "X is happening in the USA" is just a false statement on the face. The country is too big. Houston has obviously not done a good job. Florida has obviously not done a good job. Even if you extrapolate Houston to Texas (which is dumb), you still have 48 states.
But the ICU bed thing is another one of those statements that is false on its face. The Dakotas (yes, plural), have no trauma centers. Those people come to Minneapolis. It's easy to social distance when there's one person per square galaxy though.
