It's really weird to read these think pieces on whether or not robots should have rights.
The position that offering a robot the status of legal personhood is somehow degrading to the status of human rights is utterly moronic. This seems like a lazy argument coming from people who want free mechanical labor.
If it's sapient, if it has self-awareness, if it grasps object-context, and can leverage language to derive meaning, then it is a person, organic or otherwise.
