There are so many instances now. It kind of makes me really happy - I'm seeing a ton of new GS, Mastodon, and Pleroma nodes all joining in to the network, and discovering domains I've never even heard of before.

Quick question - how many of you are self-hosting a personal instance? How many of you are running public nodes with free registration?

@deadsuperhero I'm self-hosting a family instance of Friendica running on a raspi2 and am co-admin of a public instance. Before settling to Friendica I self-hosted since Laconica 0.4 I think.

I administrate an instance of friendica at our LUG in berlin. Registration is only opened for members of our LUG and I plan to host a single user instance for myself somewhen next year or so and I'm still unsure if I'll gonna self-host it from home, or with a VPS.

@deadsuperhero I'm running four instances (two Friendica, two GNU Social), one with free registration, two with the possibility of invitations.

I'm running a personal instance of !GNUsocial for myself (https://gs.jonkman.ca), an old instance of #StatusNet (http://sn.jonkman.ca) that I'm maintaining because it has groups that I want to preserve, a StatusNet instance for @LaurelRusswurm@s.russwurm.com that also has a bunch of groups I want to preserve, and, online #AnyDayNow, a public instance at @KWLUG, my local Linux Users Group (configuration stymied by security settings at a level that prevent webapps from running). Don't join that yet; I may have to nuke it to fix its problems.

        Argh. That's @LaurelRusswurm@s.russwurm.ORG -- you'd think I know the domain names I'm hosting...

I'm running a small invite-only/personal instance with 5 users, 2 of whom are reasonably active.
