I had a a reasonable well put-together adult tell me she had never heard of Franz Kafka. I mean, not being able to pair author to work is fine. I am HORRIBLE with names. I could tell you all about someone, but not be able to tell you their name.

But...to have never even heard of him?

@musicman If she attended California schools, that's normal. I heard of Kafka in college, not high school.

I did have Dickens (Great Expectations), Steinbeck (Grapes of Wrath), Huxley (Brave New World), Keyes (Flowers for Algernon), Shakespeare (Julius Caesar) among my "required" readings, along with lots of uninteresting books that I've still never read.
