The awful responses to CoViD-19 have convinced me more strongly than ever that consequentialist ethical theories cannot stand up to real world trials, in comparison to other ethical frameworks. People fail to make rational calculations under pressure and succumb to all sorts of biases and flawed heuristics that cause them to misjudge utility. The standard problems about predicting the future and unintended consequences apply too.
