K sent me a photo of the people from his worksite. They won some award for hitting a goal. In the pic, he's standing in a corner, away from the rest of the staff. I'm going to rib him about it a little bit, before I get to the serious stuff about life after $EMPLOYER.
He's late 40s or early 50s, and you can't let these little boys roam around without a plan. You have to keep checking on their progress and asking them what is needed to take the next step.
I bought him a Cisco practice kit (with a router and two or three switches, I think ... all outdated, but fine for learning the basic IOS commands), but he has since decided on a different path.
He'll have to buy his own stuff for this one, but he'll have up-to-date equipment and software. I also don't have a clue what they need in that field.

The kit I bought was probably similar to this one: https://www.amazon.com/Cisco-CCNA-Basic-Lab-Certification/dp/B00PVBEHSY/ ... but purchased used for a lot less than $500.

Speaking of expensive equipment, #sonTwo told me that there’s a sale on a piece of equipment that he’s been wanting for his side gig. Only around $1,000. 😳 Yikes.
