Oh, great. In August of 2020, USGovt said employers did not have to collect OASDI/Social Security Tax for a few months. Some time this year, that _deferred tax_ became payable. $EMPLOYER is going to start taking money out of people's paychecks ... and filing claims against those who are not currently being paid.
In my case, I did not have a single assignment in 2020, so other than an odd "mandatory training: 2 hours paid" here or there, none of this should apply to me.
But still, who thought this was a good idea? Either exempt people totally or don't do it at all. Leaving people with an unpaid obligation like that is not right.

From what I have heard from the wife, most employers did not participate in the program because they could be left on the hook if they did participate and they employee left without paying it back.

@geniusmusing That is good news.
A big chunk of those affected would have to be low-wage “essential workers” to whom losing 7-8% of their pretax income could be the difference between eating all month and skipping some meals.
I just don’t understand how elected officials and top agency heads in Washington DC did not take this into account.
