   The thing about mopeds is that they are not really designed to be ridden using the pedals. The machines were too heavy, so the gearing had to be lowered too much to make pedaling a fruitful experience.
   
   (This is based on memories from the 1980s and 1990s, as I no longer know anyone that has one.)

      IIRC there was some other comparison to riding a moped but it is slipping my mind...
