Sunday night, the fiber Internet went down. This morning (Thursday!), the Frontier Communications technician arrived to fix it. Within fifteen minutes, he had isolated the failed part (a box mounted to the outside of the building) and replaced it.
Since the telco has been working on wires nearby, I suspected (wrongly) that something upstream of the fiber connection point had failed.
This does explain why their site reported no known outage (though the tweets to the Twitter account from SoCal seemed to say that a number of people in different areas of Southern California were experiencing 'no service').
Anyway, everything seems to be working normally.
