It's the same story with people buying houses until the 2008 stock market crisis, how were they supposed to know when the market would crash? How were taxi drivers supposed to know if and when a global pandemic would happen to stop them from taking a loan 5, 10, 15 years ago?

Unlike cryptocurrency speculators, these people don't need your contempt, they have nothing to fall back on for their livelihood and worse, they still are on the hook for a massive debt they can't repay themselves without the activity it was tied to before the foreclosures.
