I hope someone with money who already uses 'Meta' in their name or product sues Facebook over trademark & servicemark violations.
I'm not against them rebranding, but I am against taking an important and well used part of our vocabulary and assigning it solely to one for-profit entity.

I did a quick look and there are a few (just meta) that are years old that look unrelated out of hundreds of meta*. There might be hope although many of the TM's were files by the same lawyer recently but I couldn't find an easy tie to fb.

it's a nice but vain hope. they've most certainly searched the trademark space before the announcement

@lxo One would think so, but I remember Apple rushing to license the right to use "iOS" from Cisco (makers of "IOS") after they announced their OS's naming.
