    Something about #NYC causes mobile devices to discharge more rapidly. I suspect much of it is related to #cellular and #Wi-Fi network coverage between tall buildings. But I noticed a milder version outside New York City, where I've been working the past few days.

      battery consumption can grow for having to communicate with a distant towers. I suspect this is not what drives power use up in crowded areas; you're probably not falling back onto a distant tower, but rather having to retransmit often due to collisions within partially-overlapping cells
