    I've been thinking a lot about this, since the most recent episode of cancellation, that prompted me to look into what you actually said and wrote, and what was falsely reported about you

    I think some significant part of the problem is language. we've long had words that referred to concepts that, for a long time, were taken as overlapping, but that never were, and now have split for good, namely sex and gender. This creates situations unforeseen by language, analogous to what lessig writes about in Code 2.0 WRT new facts that show spots that founding fathers did not think or rule about because the facts back then did not even bring the issues to mind. WRT gender and sex, I perceive different groups struggling to enforce the use of the pronouns with one meaning or the other, and rejecting, sometimes violently, the other meaning that is just as legitimate.

    if this was engineering, deprecating the terms and coming up with new ones for each of the meanings might work, but alas...
