Subreddits? Insufferable?
I can't say. I disliked #Reddit the first time I saw it as I also did with similar sites #Digg (when that was popular,) and #Fark. I did like #Voat the first time I saw it, but I could tell it was going to become the home of Reddit's rejects and couldn't possibly remain tolerable.
There are probably a good five or ten similar sites that I've seen and also immediately disliked. I've never been a participant on any of these, just a very short term observer.
I don't think anyone imagines redditors clinking their teacups together and singing the chorus from the "Friends" theme song. Instead, what they imagine is probably closer to Roman gladiators in cage fights to the death.

I would say it is a mixed bag depending on what sub you visit. Of the 9 I subscribe to, 2 are NFL teams, 1 is a DIY Battery and the rest are tech related funny subs. Not that I interact much in them but the interactions I have had were pretty good. But as always YMMV as I have stumbled into a horror of a sub that I can't remember but it was bad.
