There is an inherent blind spot to market capitalism in the form of externalities. Anything that doesn’t incur direct monetary costs is deliberately omitted from profitability analysis because it can. Sure, the Leaf cost you less than a gas-powered car, but how much does it cost to society for you to still have a car, to the people mining for rare earth mineral used in batteries, to the environment once the batteries are discarded? I’m not blaming you specifically for doing what’s best for your own budget, but it shouldn’t be the end of the reflection, and it looks like it isn’t for you, so kudos are in order.
