    How do you make a power grid that is not centralized and yet handles everything smoothly? You need some sort of regulation because the production doesn't perfectly matches the needs. You keep speaking about "them" and "Big Energy" but you've never defined who they are. Decentralization is a nice idea, but it's wasteful and overall less efficient, and while it makes sense for some applications like social networking that isn't critical for some people survival, I do not believe it should be welcome in any public utility like electricity, water, steam/natural gas or sewage networks.
