      I think it is very likely, but not completely unavoidable.

      I think the half measures that Western nations are taking will only embolden Putin or his successor, because it is obvious to all observers that we're making unreasonable exceptions in order to avoid war. When someone is already willing to risk and to threaten war, that just encourages further expansion of the conflict zone.
