The 3.5 year old seems to have performance anxiety. He sings and dances when he thinks no one sees him, but not otherwise.
It seems like he’s thinking “if it isn’t perfect, it isn’t good enough“ and that isn’t how any of us think.

Sometimes it just takes the right time to notice being seen.
Back when I was doing the DJ thing (about 25 years ago), I knew I was pretty good but still had some performance anxiety with bigger events, bigger than the usual wedding/party size.
We (there were three of us) did an dance event at a high school and I started off when there were maybe 50 or so people in a mostly empty gym. I was kind of "in the zone" and not paying attention to anything but the music until I looked up.
The gym about 3/4 full with dancing kids who were just dancing away. I actually froze for a moment but seeing them all dancing away gave me the confidence to keep going, yes, I thought, I was that good.
We actually had some of the kids want to come on the stage to make sure we were not playing a tape and faking being a DJ. That was the best compliment I could have received that night.
