I was reading a super interesting Medium article on the practical considerations of space launch with regard to the structure of the rocket for each mission type and then my eyes landed on this nugget of a statement:

At present, space launch has a massively net positive impact on the environment, with GPS alone, saving a half billion gallons of fossil fuel each day while also feeding 800 million people.

I'm not sure I've ever seen someone so blatantly greenwash the activity they are a prominent actor of so casually. This is full doublespeak on display, they have to fully believe in the lie otherwise their whole world collapses.

In the end the article turned out to be a commercial white paper for the Vulcan rocket so I won't link to it but whew.
