   Many payment terminals in this city seems to only report "Approved" or "Declined", no error messages.

   Several times I've broken into a cold sweat, checked my apps, etc, when it was just a failure to read card or communication error and simply trying again fixed it.

      That seems to be common recently. Maybe newer models intentionally skip giving any troubleshooting information in case you're not really you.
