I saw this link somewhere, so I'm reading, and my first question is "Has Disney really been getting special treatment"? By that, I mean, with its own special district, did it have lower labor and environmental compliance standards than state / federal law requires? If so, why did the state allow that? No, seriously. If you're a state government and you have compliance regulations such as those, you've already written dozens of loopholes to help companies and industries you like, so why would Disney be able to exempt itself from those rules?

Do other theme park companies like Universal Studios and Sea World and Busch Gardens have their own special districts, or do they have to comply with apparently stricter state and federal standards?

I don't know the answers at all, but the article makes some implicit assertions without providing any sort of links to sources that would justify those statements.

I'm not a Disney acolyte (though I did used to know one and we had season tickets to the SoCal theme parks for a couple of years). I mean, if the company did get exemptions from normal requirements, knock them in the head with a stick. And not just because they decided to interfere in state politics, because as much as I hate corporate influence in politics, it isn't just Disney that is doing it.
