I think maybe it's just so full of Stuff that it's difficult to appreciate it all on the first viewing. Also when we first watched it two years ago I didn't expect more than a fun romp, so maybe I didn't pay enough attention to detail.
Having watched Across the Spiderverse since then and obsessing over it a bit maybe helped me be more attuned to the art too. It was part of the reason we rewatched it.
