we have plenty of functional business models for freedom-respecting software, and, conversely, products and services that depend on abusing people's fundamental rights don't deserve to exist. monopolies (that's what any piece of nonfree junk establishes) make for easier profits, true, but that doesn't mean that monopolies are necessary to make a profit, as has been shown over and over and over.
besides, it's not up to the community to provide exploiters with alternative, working business models. that's not how it works. picture it: "*I* want to earn a living selling poisonous, rotten mushrooms, so *you* figure out a profitable business model for me and let me know, because otherwise I won't be able to earn a living that way"
