I heard a rumor years ago (and I've never bothered to do a shred of research about it) that Jesus was born in the Spring, likely April 1. Why? Because supposedly, the people who remembered the correct day were believed to be fools, hence April Fools Day.

I don't know. That sounds too neatly packaged, as though someone was intentionally setting up a pun.
