Ever work side by side with a non-profit group? I don't think I've seen any that are more efficient than government agencies. Most of the larger ones have huge fundraising wings that consume a big chunk of their resources, and then they often have highly paid executives consuming another big chunk. (And that's not counting what happens if your contributions go through United Way first.)
