I had a look at the "USS Callister" episode of Black Mirror and I thought it would just be a fun Star Trek parody, but it was ... indeed a Black Mirror episode, haha.

I thought it didn't make sense how this would be turned into a mini-series, but by the end of the episode it did make sense. 😊

Today as a cleanser I thought I'd watch some Orville after work, and I ran straight into the horror episode, woah! That's S1E10 "Firestorm", and it's very good.

The beginning of the episode hit me right in the gut. When The Orville hits hard, it hits really hard, even when there are jokes strewn in, because the acting is more naturalistic compared to any Trek, which is more stylized and easier to distance yourself from.

I'll have one more Orville after dinner, hope it's a cleanser. πŸ˜ƒ

I didn't, but I saw S1E11 today and it was very sweet, about leadership, trust, confidence, some fun physics and math geekery thrown in.

I disagreed with one thing, or thought a comment on it was missing, but overall it's a very good episode. The Orville is handling questions about humanity, relations and socialization very well. At this point it even has a clearer statement on post-scarcity economics than TNG ever did.

I continue to be impressed, and at this point it's not because I underestimate it as "just a comedy", I know it's not. It's just very well and thoughtfully written.

S1E12 is the final episode of #TheOrville (EDIT: the end of Season 1, that is) and it is ... simply a rock solid TNG episode, with just the teensiest dash of buffoonery sprinkled on top.

Every episode so far in S2 has me laughing or sobbing, or often laugh-sobbing. The swings are really wide, the show doesn't restrain itself and the character arcs are intense.

It can't possibly stay this good for another almost-two seasons.

Sorry, "For All Mankind", I like you, but you'll have to wait again. I'm getting better dopamine here and I need it.

Wow, The Orville really beefed up the theme song for season 3.

I can see a beautiful step toward reconciliation coming up and I'm already sobbing, it's so beautiful.

Every episode in S3 pushes so many buttons. The relationship writing is so on point, I feel manipulated in a good way. It's cathartic, like therapy. They hit so hard and it's so rewarding.

I'm gushing. It's silly. I should normally be drunk to be leaking so much of this sentimental stuff.

The beefed up music in this season is a bit on the nose and is getting a bit exhausting. The writing really does it all by itself, it doesn't need all this epic swelling to make the impact.

The camera work, direction and acting is very effective as well. I was especially impressed by Palicki's emotional range in "A Tale of Two Topas", when commander Grayson experienced a full spectrum from sympathetic distress to fierce protectiveness to regret and guilt to aggressive outrage to caring concern. I felt it.
