As the end of the school year approaches, the Michigan Science Center has received an overwhelming number of applications for field trip support, and we need your help to provide those field trips and transportation to our under-resourced schools across Metro Detroit that lack the funding and need our support.
We’ve created a program called SOS, and throughout the year, we can help these students. However, there is such a great need in 2024 that we will have to suspend this effort right now without your support, as we have over 2,000 students on the waiting list.
In February, 260 elementary students from Holland Elementary had the chance to visit Mi-Sci with SOS funding, which supported their field trip and paid for transportation!
One Holland Elementary teacher, Cynthia, shared that shortly after their visit to Mi-Sci, her 5th-grade class learned about the history of flight. She was able to immediately connect what the students were learning in the classroom to their experience at Mi-Sci, interacting with our Above and Beyond exhibit. This exhibit allowed her students to build and fly their own virtual jets, learn about forces of flight with motion-sensing technology, experience a 360-degree view of Earthfrom orbit, and much more.
