not fair or reasonable criticism IMHO. it's for typesetting. you can typeset text and maths better than anywhere else, but and you can do arithmetics on quantities that make sense for the domain of typesetting, but it won't solve equations, nor will it compute the digits of \Pi. it's not a general purpose language, it's a domain-specific language, and that's ok
