whether or not they did, were those hypothetical sayers wrong, would you say?

I mean, I've read snippets of newspapers from a century ago in which people complained about supposed cognitive decline among youngsters, and it's clear that there's some exaggeration from doomsayers, but denying they're on to something is probably the opposite exaggeration IMHO
