    ... and that's not even capitalism, that's just commerce, and it predates capitalism by millenia. but it's a very common and widespread misconception, that I suppose was promoted to try to normalize capitalism.

    traditional commerce doesn't require reinvestment for exponential growth, nor exploitation of workers. these two are the key elements introduced with capitalism that make it fundamentally unsustainable and unjust, respectively.
