Not sure if I have asked this before but does anyone use the nextcloud calendar app without google calendar (via davsync or whatever it's called) on their android device? It feels a bit stupid and silly to go through the trouble of setting up and maintaining a nextcloud instance and then feeding my private information back into google.

Yup! I set up an !ownCloud server in 2013 (?) specifically to divorce myself from Google Calendar. I disliked the ownCloud calendar webUI; the !Nextcloud calendar webUI is only slightly better. But the backend implements the iCalendar spec RFC 5545 very well, so I'm using Thunderbird's Lightning caledendar plugin, the DAVdroid app from !Fdroid, and have used the .ics public access URI for other implementations. #GoogleFree

@bobjonkman @rtsn I don't use the webUI but the calendar on ownCloud talks with iThings and Android (via DAVdroid) well enough. (Gave up updating DAVdroid after updates broke things a couple of times though.) Is NextCloud worth migrating to?

@bobjonkman @rtsn I also don't use the web interface. On android I use davdroid and opentasks. on my iHateFreedom work supplied device everything just works. On anything with a keyboard i use khard/khal/vdirsyncer (python contacts/calendar/backend). I also dabble with orgmode and use ics2org from github.com/skybert/moria for syncing people who still use google. khal/vdirsyncer could be used for the last thing, but when I tried it I got crazy entries that didn't really make sense to me.
