   A discussion about monoids on HN reminded me that the best introduction to monoids I've ever seen doesn't even use the term. Section 2.2.4 of SICP, the picture language, is all about monoids! Highly recommended reading.

      @dthompson I think I should re-read SICP...it's been ~8yrs and I feel like I've forgotten that most of this stuff was even discussed in there. Surely I'd still get something out of a re-read.
