I'm considering setting up a #Mastodon instance, just for me, so I can control my data.

But people read my tech books, and get the idea that I know what I'm doing. (They're mistaken.)

So: if I set up a personal Mastodon instance: am I setting a bad example? Will the protocols break? Will terrible things happen? Will I destroy a nice platform?

And if I write "Mastodon Mastery" and encourage people to set up their own platform, will I be declared Tooter Of The Apocalypse?

@mwlucas If you have the ability to do so then I'd recommend running your own instance. Make sure you have a backup system in place so that you can recover from any breakages.

@mwlucas Surely not! The whole point of Mastodon is being able to host your own instance to do whatever you want and still talk to anyone in the Fediverse. Although it *is* against the law to use a domain name that isn't hilarious. Just FYI.
