@h @chirart The nice thing about the fediverse is that its technical design tends to work against the capitalist logic which produces things like Twitter. So capitalists are completely free to set up their own instances, fill them with adverts and antifeatures and dubious monetization schemes, but I am also completely free to block any such instances if they appear. Without monopolization of the platform the usual sillycon valley tricks won't work. -

@bob @h @chirart And the more we approach every node in the network having the same weight (e.g., instances of one on Mastodon), the closer we get to eliminating the economies of scale that attract the investment (e.g., VC) that allow the centralised nodes to scale vertically and coalesce (e.g., via mergers and acquisitions). The evolution of a decentralised network topology where every node is equal is a necessary foundation for a post-capitalist world.
