looks like disqus is in dire condition. Now, they are going to force image ads for non-paid users.

(if you don't know, disqus is the comment system that allows your site to have comments by user. Was free. This year, they force ads.
But their ads are spammy “try this weird trick to lose fat” or “the camera saw it all” type. You can set tot text only. But now, they are telling us, image ads will be forced.)

@xahlee I know that lots of static sites use #Disqus for comments, but should we infest visitors' browsers with remote-hosted vile 3rd party #JavaScript after we've gone static to protect our sites from remote execution?

@xahlee If you must have JS for comments, why not host it yourself? That way, you're not letting a remote 3rd-party server endanger your visitors.

Or why not invite people to send comments by e-mail, and then you can periodically add approved comments to the page?

@lnxw48a1 it's easier said than done.

it would mean, change my server provider, spend days to research and code.

            @lnxw48a1 by email? lol.

i spend like 1 hour per day, for like 10 years, replying to comments and email. worst of the worst is email.

i have 5 thousand manually crafted html web pages. some 10k page views per day. each email, they think they just take a minute of my time. When u ask to pay, or have ads, people attack you to no ends. The open source people, that is.

@lnxw48a1 about 5 yrs ago, there are about 2% don't have js on. Not sure now, but not surprised if it is 0.1%.

also, as web master, what do you get to cater those linux+pananoid geeks who wants js off? nothing.

you see, 99.9999% of web users, don't even know wtf is a “browser”. Among programers, 99% don't care if js is on. And, the less they know these things, are more likely to pay you, or click ads.

that's reality. thus, thrives facebook google twitter and all news sites, engaget, etc.

                worst is,

the linux open source fsf fanatics, you squeeze your blood to write stuff, and they spit on you, as soon as you have a diff opinion on program lang, or criticize open source, or rms, or emacs, or linux.

Unless, you happened to be a one of the few stars, and litter your writing with “helping”, “hope you like it”, “thank you very much for reading”, and today, it mutates to the code of conduct sjw stuff.

most of linux open source fsf type of fanatics, are either jobless fringe, or student, or majority work in closed source making big $$$ totting latest Apple stuf.

i wallow in emacs and unix space, since 1998. That's how things are. it's all politics.
I think it's time, to openly oppose open source and fsf.
