How hostile Mastodon's userbase acts towards any new instance that even steps a bit out of lockstep underlines how little they actually believe in the principles of decentralized federated networks and how much it was actually about them having their own sandbox where they had power.

There's a lot of instances out there with belief systems incompatible with mine that you don't see me endlessly droning on about and actively trying to push out of the network, but you can't say the same about the reaction to counter.social

Honestly? I think it's a dumb and poorly-conceived instance that obviously doesn't understand the vectors of attack when it comes to foreign interference but dumb things are allowed to exist on then fediverse too.

I mean there's an Mastodon instance out there basically based around gossiping bullshit about me kiwifarms style (oh no, Maiya-sempai noticed them) and you don't see me trying to run them off.
It just feeds people looking for attention and you ought not to do that.
