    @Elizafox

    i don’t have any opinion on counter.social

    i think jester is amusing, but don’t necessarily agree with his tactics.

      further i do think that the issue of rogue nation states influencing free speech on social platforms as russia was doing on facebook/twitter is something worth having a discussion.

      the fediverse could stand to have some hardening against such things

        where jester and myself would disagree on that is that i believe he would be in favor of maintaining american psy-ops campaigns, just the russian/dprk ones are bad.

        i think we need to harden against any nation state campaigns instead.

          i see it like the episode of TNG where benjamin maxwell goes gunning down cardassian ships because they are shipping weapons and trying to hide it.

          jester’s not wrong but his tactics on this issue are.

          the fediverse would be an excellent target for a russian misinformation campaign.

          @kaniini @elizafox States could try to disrupt the fediverse with sockpuppet campaigns, but my guess is that right now it's not big enough to be of interest to them. A big problem for them would be that they can't just manipulate some timeline algorithm, or bend the ear of an oligarch to get their way.

            the timeline aspect is hardly the worst aspect of these campaigns.

            when you write something that russia does not like on twitter, you get harassed by sock puppets and bots very quickly.
